Abstract:
Based on the report done, women are generally not able to participate fully in the development process. Thus, more women are poor, illiterate, do not enjoy proper healthcare, victims of violence such as rape, abuse as well as neglected, denied basic rights, discriminated against and suffer other forms of inequality. Therefore, the main purpose of the study was to establish the Effects of gender discrimination on women participation in development case study of Narok County Government, the study sought to handle some research questions as, what are the prevalence of gender discrimination on women, what are the causes of gender discrimination on women and what are the effects of gender discrimination on women participation in development in Narok County Government. A descriptive survey design was adopted in order to analyze the multiple variables involved. Simple stratified random sampling technique was used to capture the objective of the study population of 120 women in the Narok County Government Headquarters. The sample of 83.3% of the total population was used, which reflectsZ to 30 respondents. Data was collected using structured questionnaires. Pilot test of the measures was conducted against prospective sample population in order to measure validity and reliability. Data was presented using tables and figures to make them reader friendly. From the study it can be concluded that prevalence of gender discrimination and causes of gender discrimination are the major factors affecting women participation. Therefore, the County government should find mechanism to addresses women gender discrimination in all level of its governance.
