dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT Community policing is a government initiative funded to in an attempt to reduce alarming crimes. The initiative has been tried all over the world and it has succeeded in building trust between police and the community. From the data in police report, it is clearly indicated that parts in Kenya like Kirinyaga, Kajiado and parts of Nakuru, which have implemented the community policing have a reduced level of crimes committed. In Kuresoi south constituency there have been an increase in level of crimes despite the use of community policing that majorly concerned with neighborhood watch (Nyumba Kumi initiative). This made me choose this region for research. This research study was focused on the use community policing as a strategy to minimize level of crimes in Kuresoi South constituency located at Nakuru County. This study was guided by the following objectives: to examine factors that affects community policing in Kuresoi South constituency, to assess the common community policing and crimes in Kuresoi South constituency and examine the role played by Nyumba Kumi initiative in reduction of crimes in the region. The research employed descriptive survey analysis using both qualitative and quantitative approach. It also employed secondary data from literature review and theoretical framework. A sample population of 100 was randomly selected from the four wards in Kuresoi South constituency (Tinet, Keringet, Amalo and Kiptagich). The questionnaires were distributed to the relevant respondents, filled in, collected and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics presented in forms of table, charts and graphs. Microsoft excel as well as Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Qualitative data was collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The findings indicated that “nyumba kumi” initiative reduced crimes in Kuresoi South constituency. The people from Kuresoi South will benefit from the information resulting from this research. The study also brings out the recommendation for further studies especially on the areas of education and sensitization so as to reduce future occurrences of the crimes. It will also help in informing the government on the effects of the use of community policing in crimes reduction. en_US
