dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT The researcher investigated the negative effects of internet use on academic performance of students in Maasai Mara University using a quantitative case study method. A questionnaire-based survey was done among 50 students, ten students form the five faculties of study in the university. The research findings indicate that the students’ internet use in Maasai Mara University is vast and that the students use the internet for both academic and non- academic purposes. The study further revealed that extensive internet use negatively affects academic performance by causing them to procrastinate studying and other academic activities, further the study revealed that internet use in class is distracting and causes interruption of concentration. The major recommendations of the study include that students need to be educated on how make good use of the internet to improve their academic performance, that students ought to be careful on the amount of time they spend online so as to avoid wastage of time and the university should find a way to limit internet access for non- academic purposes and promote internet use for academic purposes. en_US
