dc.description.abstract The study applied mixed methods research using survey methodology. Through multi-stage and non-probability sampling, 539 respondents were used for quantitative and qualitative phases respectively. The study revealed that WhatsApp was the most popular site closely followed by Facebook. Also, respondents used social media mainly for information-seeking purposes that were not necessarily academic in nature followed by the need for online social interaction with colleagues. en_US
