dc.description.abstract Most tour firms all over the world are attempting to identify key roles that domestic tourism play in the country’s economy and benefits that come along with domestic tourism operations. Hence analyzing the effects that hinder successful operation of domestic tourism. Domestic tourism is a form of tourism that involve residents of a country touring their own country for business purposes, leisure and recreation, medical or educational purposes. Adoption of domestic tourism has been faced by various challenges. The main objective of the study was to examine the effects of government regulations on domestic tourism. However the specific objectives were; to assess the effects of taxation on domestic tourism, to find out the effects of licensing on domestic tourism, and to investigate the effects of poor government strategies on domestic tourism. The study adopted a case study research design. The study targeted 144 tourism investors in Maasai Mara National Reserve. Judgmental sampling design was used whereby 108 respondents were selected to participate in the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect both primary and secondary data from the respondents. The instrument was tested to determine its reliability and validity before being used to collect data for the main study. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive both in percentage. The data was presented using tables. The study established that taxation, licensing, and poor government strategies affect domestic tourism. The study recommended that Narok county tourism government should continue creating awareness on importance of domestic tourism to the country’s economy, the government should allocate adequate to encourage and support domestic tourism investment, and domestic tourism should not be sidelined in any way. Lastly is that the government should ease the processes of acquiring business operational licenses for domestic tour operators. en_US
