Abstract:
mployee training has come to gain great attention all over the world, in various industries. Organizations have faced this problem at some stage of their evolution. Employers therefore take a deep interest in their employee performance rate because low performance is a costly part of doing business. Low employee performance can have a demoralizing effect on an organization, and it may also severely impact the overall efficiency of the organization. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to assess the effects of training on employee performance using the The Kenya Institute of management as a case study. The specific objectives were to determine; how on the job training affects productivity of employees, how coaching affect employee turnover and how job rotation affects employee turnover in The Kenya Institute of Management. The research adopted the case study research design targeting the 30 administrative staff members of The Kenya Institute of Management using the census technique but only 25 employees returned the questionnaires. The study used questionnaires as its instruments of data collection. Data was coded and analyzed using SPSS statistical package to describe basic characteristics and summarize the data in a straight forward and understandable manner. The findings revealed that most of the respondents felt that their organization trained them well for their inputs. These results imply that much as the organization trained its employees based on the organization needs most felt that their training was not adequate. The trainings were based on the needs of the organization and were in form of on the job training, coaching and job rotation.. It also emerged that most of the respondents were not satisfied working in the organization and would consider moving from the organization in the near future as they felt that their organization did not compensate them well for their inputs. It is, therefore, recommended that; performance appraisal should be frequently and fairly done and emphasis should be put on encouraging improvement in organization training
