Abstract:
This study was carried out to determine motivational factors affecting employees performance in Machakos County Government Headquarters, Machakos County. The study was motivated by the fact the performance in the county government headquarters is not as expected. This study was to benefit HR managers and leaders of organizations with necessary information on motivational factors affecting performance. The research findings were also to bridge the gap in the knowledge in the area of the study and inspire a series of researchers to build on the recommendations given after the research. The main objective of this study was to determine motivational factors affecting employee performance in Machakos County government headquarters, Machakos County. The specific objectives aimed to determine how compensation, working conditions, work load distribution, and work life balance affect employee’s performance in County Government Headquarters in Machakos County. The study adopted descriptive research design. The target population for this study consisted of 200 employees. The researcher drew respondents from the employees of Machakos County Government Headquarters. A sample of 30% of the target population was used. The researcher used both primary and secondary sources to collect and analyze the data. Questionnaires were used to collect primary data. The researcher used Microsoft excel 2007 as an aid to analyze data. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis was used whereby numbers about a situation were analyzed by choosing specific aspects of that situation. The output was represented using frequency table and charts based on the research objectives. Some of the expected limitations for this study included time in project writing and data collection and finances since the researcher was the sole financier of the study. Questionnaires were to be used to save time and cut costs. The findings of this study confirmed that compensation, working conditions, work load distribution and work life balance affects employee performance as supported by the literature review, however, work life balance had little influence on employee’s performance. The researcher recommended that the mentioned motivational factors affecting employees performance be improved to boost the performance of employees of Machakos County Government Headquarters.
