dc.description.abstract The advent of computer technologies has changed completely how we conduct our day to day activities. The various common uses of laptops include, entertainment purposes, browsing the internet and learning activities. However greater population that has adopted this computers are majorly the youth most of them are in institutions of higher learning.Students intensively use their laptops for an average of 3 to 4 hours every day outside the classroom, which makes the laptops the second mostly used technological device after mobile phones. However, as obvious as it is that they use their laptops for long durations, it is more important to know what they do exactly with their laptops.This study therefore was conducted to investigate in detail the various uses that this laptops are put to use by students in a university set up. This research report covers a brief history of computers, types of computers that are available to students.This report further shades light on the current state of laptop adoption by university students in Kenya as well as the various initiatives that the government and various universities have devised to ensure that students in institutions of higher learning own a laptop.Lastly this report covers the discussions on the various uses of laptop, by the students of Maasai Mara University, the challenges they face the recommendations that can be implemented. en_US
