Abstract:
We are in the knowledge economy where knowledge is the most important capital in the present age. The success of any university heavily relies in harnessing the available knowledge. Likewise, information explosion is evident in the knowledge age and therefore the need to manage the vast available knowledge in Kenyan Public Universities. Apparently, the efficient way of realizing excellent Knowledge Management is by adoption of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). This paper exemplifies how ICTs can be used to manage knowledge in Kenyan Universities in order to realize the Kenya Vision 2030. The study employed descriptive survey design. The study population included Information Sciences students, lecturers and ICT experts of Maasai Mara University. Primary data was collected using questionnaires, interview schedules; direct and participant observation; whereas secondary data was collected through desk research as well as surfing the internet. This paper argues that ICTs are essential in creating, accessing, internalizing and externalizing knowledge (tacit or explicit). In respect to the argument of this paper, we are going to explore various technologies such as knowledge discovery/visualization, storage, search/retrieval, delivery/sharing, utilization and platform technologies among Information Sciences professionals and trainees. The paper further recommends that all universities should strive to employ ICT in managing the available knowledge in order to realize sustainability in development.
