dc.description.abstract In any industry the success of an organization is extremely dependent on its human resources. Although there are many other factors that play a key role, a company must have effective employees in order to stay financially solvent and competitive. In order to maintain this valuable commodity, organizations must be aware of the role employee’s play as an important source of a firm’s competitive advantage. This trend has lead to increased interest in employee development practices such as delegation of responsibility as antecedents of employee performance. As literature points out, the link between employee development practices and employee performance is considered like a ‘black box’, that is there is lack of clarity regarding ‘what exactly leads to what’ in organization performance. The study used descriptive survey research design where both qualitative and quantitative techniques were employed to analyze data. The sample size of 264 respondents was selected. Questionnaires were used as the main data collection instrument. Frequencies and percentages were used to analyze the data descriptively while inferential statistics; correlation and regression analysis was used to establish whether there is a relationship between the variables. The results showed a strong relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variable (R = 0.75), meaning that the delegation of responsibility had an effect on performance of bank employees. The results further showed that a change in employee performance is influenced by 12.2% of responsibility delegation performance of employees in the banks. The study therefore concluded that, delegation of responsibility had a significant effect on the performance of employees’ hence organization performance. It therefore recommends that banks seeking to achieve high performance should embrace employee delegation of responsibilities to boost the performance of the employees. The findings of this study are beneficial to management and employees of commercial Banks. The findings of this study will benefit other organizations, which shall be able to effectively use the delegation of responsibility to improve on the performance of the employees hence organization performance. Finally, other researchers shall find the study a useful framework from which to formulate their studies. en_US
