Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors affecting profitability of retail stores in Kenya with reference to Naivas supermarket as the case study. The study objectives were; to find out the effect of technology on profitability of retail stores; to assess the effects of staff training on profitability of retail stores; to determine the effects of Price of products on profitability of retail stores and to asses the effect of security on profitability of retail stores. The study was confined to Naivas Limited supermarket located in Narok opposite Narok main Stage along the Narok- Nakuru road. The research design employed was Descriptive research. The study targeted the organization staff, the management as well as the employees or attendants at the retail supermarket,. a total of 50. The study used census as sampling method since the population was mall. Hence it used 50 respondents as the sample size. Data collection was done using questionnaires which consisted both open and closed ended questions. The study collected data according to sample population which was organized in such a way that further analysis and interpretation was made easy. The data was analyzed using qualitative and quantitative technique by the help of Microsoft excel computer package. From the findings, majority of the respondents indicated that information technology affects profitability in the retail sector. Also majority of respondents supported that staff kills affects profitability in the retail sector and most of the sampled population responded that Price of product affect profitability of retail sector in Kenya. Lastly majority of responses noted that security affects profitability in the retail sector. Therefore In order to keep up with the phase of change the organization should practice continuous improvement on K'T, Training and security in order to take advantage of the efficiency and Price of product effectiveness
