dc.description.abstract This research was mainly aimed at determining the best performing local maize variety in lowland areas ofNarok .The local varieties most common among farmers of Narok south district is depended upon by theother residents of Narok town and other regions within the county as their main source of work. In additionthe project also wanted to determine if there exists a significant difference between the block which are theyearly means. These were achieved through a design of experiments i.e. use of Randomized CompleteBlock Design of experiment (RCBD) that comprised of blocks and treatments. Our data was analyzed byuse of R software package. This study found out that Olerai46, Pundamilia and Duma were the superiorvarieties. This study is expected to be useful to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and farmers particularly from the Olerai farm in making choice of the best yielding local variety which enables them increasemaize production and earn a higher income. en_US
