Abstract:
The use of motorcycles as a means of modern transport has greatly increased in the present world. This has led to an increment in the accidents caused by this mode of transport. This research is aimed at establishing the major causes of the accidents and the severity of their accidents by fitting a multrinomial regression analysis (MRA) model to the causes. To achieve the purpose, the study was guided by these objectives which are: the influence of protective clothing (helmet use) on accidents, how lack of adequate training affects the number and severity of accidents, effect of time of motorcycling on accidents and use of alcohol (illicit drinks) on the accidents. Both primary and secondary data was used. Secondary data was obtained from the traffic police (Narok headquarters) and was entered in statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS) for analysis. Multinomial regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between severi0' of the accidents (dependenl variable) and protective clothing, level cf training rime of riding and alcohol use (independent variables). Correlation coefficient will be used to show the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables. Coefficient of determination was used to show the degree of variability represented in the model.
