Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the factors affecting water supply in Narok County. specific objectives of the study included; to establish whether population expansion affect the water supply in Narok County, to establish how infrastructure affect the water supply in Narok County, to find out if drought affect the water supply in Narok County and to determine whether government policies affect the water supply in Narok County. A descriptive research design was used in the study. The target population for this study consisted of 120 employees of Narok Water and Sewerage Company. Stratified random sampling was used to select a sample size of 50 respondents. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire. Data was tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics and it was presented using tables, bar graphs and pie charts. From the findings, majority of the respondents 91% indicated that population expansion affect water supply, 69% indicated that infrastructure affect water supply, 89% indicated that drought influence water supply and 85% of the respondents indicated that government policies influence water supply. From these findings the study recommends that the Narok County government should continue with its spirited efforts to save the water catchments areas by protecting such boundaries from human exploitation through joint efforts. This study will be important as it outlines the factors affecting water supply in Narok County. Understanding these factors will enhance Narok Water and sewerage Company's Water Supply programs and refine their supply strategies to achieve the required results in a more cost efficient way. Finally the findings shall act as a reference to the future researchers on the same field.
