dc.description.abstract The number of people with diabetes is increasing due to population growth, education, urbanization, and increasing prevalence of obesity and physical inactivity. This study seeks to establish the contributing factor of diabetes mellitus in Uasin Gishu County, the age distribution of people with diabetes and al 0 compare the distribution of diabetes among the residents of Uasin Gishu County based on social status, gender and age. This study is, therefore a meta-¬summary of the changing trends and distribution of today's emerging silent killer or diabetes in the Rift Valley region and the country as a whole. The theme is that time is running out for the medical fraternity and that, as was for HIV / AID, by the time the stakeholders wake up and stop denying the catastrophic potential of the epidemic, diabetes will simply overwhelm the country s resources and the world will witness the death of mill ions of Kenyans. Data is collected from the three hospitals selected that is secondary data, from the hospital records. t- Test and chi square test is used to compare means of risk factor for both sexes. Multiple logistic regression models is used to ascertain the association between the diabetes mellitus and its risk factors. Results obtained shows an increase in trend of distribution, the number of positive female diabetic are higher than the male. Further, it's evident that some of the lifestyle changes ha associated with diabetes mellitus. Recommendations are made to the various stakeholders through the ministries of public health and medical services on the need for a call of action against diabetes in term of advocacy, promotion of awareness, and public health policies that empower people to diabetes self-management. en_US
